The Morning After
FOR AS LONG as liberal democracy holds sway, we will always celebrate the Central European revolutions of 1989. Many factors triggered those glorious upheavals—the acceleration of the arms race, the internal rot in the governments in question, economic stagnation, glasnost and (less powerfully) perestroika.
