Advice For Republicans

Instead of voting overwhelmingly to keep gays out of the military, and then apologizing for doing so in a few decades, why not just skip a step and vote to let gays in the military now?

Because being a Republican means always having to say you're sorry, Jonathan.

As usual, the dems want to pass a bill and then figure out it’s consequences later. We tell our kids to plan more intelligently than that but apparently our representatives get a pass on that. So how much will it cost to retrofit all the showers and bunkhouses to offer absolute privacy because no one in their right mind is going to want to shower and/or bunk with someone who may be attracted to you sexually in a military setting. This will create a mass exit from military service and our military readiness will go down the tubes. There is already precious little privacy in the military but to ask our soldiers to bunk with others who are attracted to you will promote fraternization and promiscuity thereby destroying order and discipline in the ranks. This is just Obama filling a campaign promise – pandering to the gay community – he doesn’t give a rip about military morale or readiness. No shit, I just copied this verbatim from a poster at frumforum (I was tempted not to add this addendum, but people would have thought it parody)

Exactly, exactly, exactly. Ten years from now Scott Brown will be asked about this bill and will hang his head in shame and . . . non-reelection. Blackie, maybe a looser moral culture is just what the armed forces need!

I think they should also allow liberals in the Military as well.

Who are you to say that liberals, like gays, aren't already in the military?

You are really at the bottom of the totem pole if you are gay liberal PFC in the Army.

- Conservatives are unable to imagine change in future in an optimistic way. Name an idea, policy or concept and there won't even be consensus among them on a date in the past, they argue among themselves when things were best or when they got worse. With no clear vision of the future, conservatives must portray it in frightening terms if any construct doesn't resemble the past. Try it! Pick a topic, it can only be improved by stopping it, stalling it or returning it to a prior configuration. But they are nostalgic.

Hey Chait, I think you're skipping the step "win elections for decades with X-baiting ads while feigning outrage over accusations that you're hostile to X"

Rozenson, the military traditionally has had a loose moral culture, or at least looser than civilian life. The East Asian sex tour industry began with U.S. military bases.

If their civil rights performance is anything to go by, conservatives' belated embrace of Martin Luther King suggests that one day they'll be quoting Harvey Milk as well.
