Gallup breaks down views of the Affordable Care Act by age. Oldsters hate it, everybody else loves it:

Overall, a slim plurality (49-46) calls passage of the law "a good thing."

So, the people least likely to be affected by it hate it. People most likely to be affected by it like it. hmmmm....

These retirees who don't understand that they are already the beneficiaries of an efficient social medicine program, or who are selfish enough to think that they are the only ones in society who deserve such a thing, drive me nuts. This includes my usually sensible parents. It's hard for me not to see them all as a bunch of selfish old f***s who don't really care about the future of the country they live in, soley because they're not going to live it in that much longer. I'm sure I'm wrong, but that's how it feels.

This is why American politics are so warped. Here you have a group of people that have a socialized medicine/single payer system that is a huge subsidy to them. Yet it is this same group of people (mostly) that find this to be "socialism" and hence evil when others get something less generous. I would respect it more if they were honest and just said, "I got mine, you go die in a ditch." However, they are instead saying that their subsidy is OK because they are real Americans and "fighting for freedom" is being against things for everyone else. But I suppose I shouldn't look at logic. This is the same group of people that think foreign aid is 50% of the Federal budget.

The right-wing demagoguery clearly had an effect.

And also interesting is that (inasmuch as one two-month snapshot is meaningful at all) the non-oldsters are warming to ACA (or at least thawing in the case of the 30-49 bracket), while the oldsters are static if not hardening against it.

Now all the non-oldsters have to do is go out and freakin' vote!

Old Farts say, "I got mine! Screeew you!" I reply, "Let's kill Social Security and Medicare NOW." Stop stealing from my check and giving it to these baby boomer creeps!

Tilghman, Agree on the old Farts (although that's not the F***s word I had in mind), but don't blame the boomers for the 65 and older perspective. The oldest boomers turned 65 this year, and the peak-year boomers are only 55 this year. Note that this age group was (just barely) in favor of ACA, and warming since the earlier survey. No, make no mistake, this is the "Greatest Generation" and their baby brothers and sisters we're talking about here, not their kids.

They also hate single payer government insurance, but they love Medicare.

This is, though, another good reason why over time Obamacare will get more and more popular with the voting public.
