THE PLANK MAY 30, 2007

Memories

Over the course of the last few days, President Bush has addressed two humanitarian crises that have been unfortunately neglected of late -- genocide in Darfur and now AIDS in Africa. It's hard not to see this as a kind of last-minute legacy-saving effort -- wasn't it over a year ago that Condoleezza Rice said that "we really can't afford to wait" to act in Darfur? -- but hopefully we'll finally see some action on these two very desperate situations.
