I think that everyone is getting this wrong -- it's the word "conferenece" (con'fir'a'ne'che), an exact but rare borrowed term from medieval Italian (see Dante, Inferno, stanzas XXX and XXXIV), meaning "a gathering of the condemned who believe they are saved."
I believe the National Conferenece is designed to give Republicans with no ideas a chance to develop plans that aren't going to work.

Ironyroad, this just proves Pat Buchanan's point! What's next - street signs and instructional manuals in medieval Italian? Medieval Italian at voting booths? The nefarious spread of medieval Italian into even conservative corners of our society is sowing the seeds of our destruction!
