Take Your Compromise Amendments And Shove Them

Harry Reid pulled the Defense bill from the Senate floor rather than brook votes on the Salazar-Alexander, Warner-Lugar or various other amendments less binding than the Levin-Reed troop withdrawal sally that had us going all night on Tuesday. While I wasn't a fan of the filibuster, my colleague Noam suggests Reid's surprise shutdown could be a good move -- inflicting a harsh punishment on the forever-waffling Lugars and Domenicis of the world who haven't put their votes where their mouths are, and let them stew for a long, hot month -- and I agree.
