Wow colinwhipple, you're really going to look like the jerk on this one. The asterisk, as you obviously didn't note, referred to the title of the post "The Anti-Social Safeway," which is a play on the local nicknames for the various Safeway grocery stores in DC. The Social Safeway, in Georgetown, the Soviet Safeway (with long lines and no bread), etc.

Don't forget the Secret Safeway north of Dupont Circle (dare we identify its location?)

I remember the not-so-Safeway at Florida and Rhode Island. scaaary. Good thing they vacated that one years ago.

But the social Safeway on Wisconsin is the original nicknamed one.
