Go Home The Future, Not The Past

THE PLANK FEBRUARY 26, 2008

The Future, Not The Past

What better time to start handicapping next year's Oscar nominees than 40 hours after the conclusion of this year's broadcast? Scott Feinberg of And the Winner Is...--who like the rest of us, hasn't actually seen any of the films in question--goes through some of the likely contenders and wild-guesses that Australia, Defiance, Frost/Nixon, The Reader, and Revolutionary Road will vie for the little gold man (with The Young Victoria as an alternate). Personally, I'm pre-rooting for Charlie Kauffman's Synecdoche, New York.

I am guessing none of these films is nominated.

Off topic but I saw your blogginheads with Douthat. You're a smart guy and offer up worthy insights. It's is, more often than not,  a pleasure reading your stuff. Funny but I had you pictured as a dishwater blond with a calculated stubble. I don't know what that means but there you go.

It says something about the Oscars that these predictions can be made with some degree of certainty before the movies are actually seen.

Box -- Thanks for the kind words. I have you pictured as tall, thin, and very good-looking.
