Tnr Slideshow: "putting America To Work"

Work has begun on the manifold projects funded by the federal stimulus package. According to the White House, the spending bill has created or saved 150,000 jobs and sped infrastructure improvements across the country.

Click through today's TNR slideshow to see the progress of some of these stimulus-funded projects.

$72,616,060 on a bridge?   Sure enough: testimony.ost.dot.gov/.../1511_Certification_041609_CT.pdf

Are they planning on making a bridge that surpasses the architectural largesse of the Brooklyn and Golden Gate Bridges?

I was going to say, that is one expensive bridge.  Damn.

The following link might shed some light on the source of the cost, apparently the rail line must be kept open during the replacement of the bridge.  I'd imagine that would create some unique safety concerns.

How much do those fancy signs cost the taxpayers?

I'd like to point out that a significant part of the $72 milliion comprises the payment to the "Ironyroad Retirement Protection Fund," an organization which does wonderful work guarding against the economic insecurity that can afflict the twilight years of our most respected citzens (e.g ironyroad himself).

Maybe this is none of my business, but how much of the economic recovery funds has been set aside for The New Republic?

I just got my own check for $9.41. I feel guilty however because unlike the Wall Street banks I really didn't have to do anything to earn it. I guess the Republicans were right about socialism.

So, are you paid per word or per each new idea? If the latter I will be more than happy to sign my check over to you. I haven't had a new idea myself now for almost 10 minutes. In the end though, it's all worth it. Now I can finally tell my friends, "I'm in the same boat as my colleagues over at TNR."

I have always dreamed of being able to use that word. You guys just take it for granted of course but I have never had the opportunity to say things like, "let me check with my colleagues first"....."my colleagues will back me on that"...."my colleagues regaled me with all the inside dope from the White House Correspondence Dinner".

Rest assured, I promise never to take it for granted.

Ah, yes, the first of many indications that the "stimulus" bill is the piece of pork-laden crap many of us said it was.  Thanks, Nancy and Harry.

I personally created or saved a million jobs over the course of this recession.

Prove me wrong. Just try.
