I'd love The Plank to discuss this statement Newt made while he was slamming Detroit: "We should basically, fundamentally replace the Detroit school system with a series of experiments to see if they'll work," Gingrich said in the interview. He's absolutely correct: we are desperate for innovation and experimentation in urban schools. I saw one study that convincingly argued that if you forget about normal measures of "teacher quality" and just put in teachers with high SAT/college board scores and add some extra security performance will skyrocket. Can that be duplicated in Detroit? How about the "bribery" plans discussed in NY? There hasn't been a bold idea in this entire campaign season. Newt, bomb away!
