Merle Haggard's already come out against the war in Iraq. Now it's Toby Keith's turn. From a Newsday profile of The Angry American:
Keith doesn't support the Iraq war -- "Never did," he says -- and he favors setting a time limit on the occupation. He says he suspects civil war in Iraq is inevitable and predicts the Kurds will be the victors: "I promise you, they'll end up with it all."
The article goes on to mention that Keith is buddies with Bill Richardson. I do think "How Do You Like Me Now" would make a pretty good theme song for Richardson's presidential campaign.

This reminds me of the fact that GOPer-friendly Bob Novak used to be a Democrat, until the GOP became the majority-party. Now it seems it's turning back, that it's not similarly fashionable to be a Democrat again (albeit Keith only adresses an issue, not party-politics). It's great to see Nader's "prophecy" come to pass, Bush would in the long-run be healthy for the Democrats and the left.

I believe that Toby Keith voted for Clinton twice and has helped Democrats running for governor in Oklahoma. However, I'm willing to bet he isn't backing Kucinich in '08...

Toby Keith called one of his albums, released right after the start of the Iraq War, "Shockin' Y'all." Intended, of course, to sound like "shock and awe." He also led the artists giving the Dixie Chicks what-for over Natalie Maines's "embarrassed that the President is from Texas" crack during the run-up to the war. (Maines, of course, threw gas on the fire by wearing a T-shirt emblazoned "FUTK" on stage during concerts.) If he didn't support the Iraq War when it started, I'm sure it would have been a big surprise to the Dixie Chicks and to Toby Keith's own flag-waving fans. Methinks his fan base has shifted its views on the war, and now he's following suit.
