The vice president was speaking at a barbecue for wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center. According to Jordan Fabian at The Hill, Joe Biden was talking about returning veterans from Vietnam.
And then the ever-precise veep admitted that he “didn’t fight in Vietnam. I don’t want to make a Blumenthal mistake here. Our attorney general from Connecticut, God love him.”
Then, a little later on, Biden admitted, “I have a bad habit of saying exactly what I think.”
So what does he really think?

"So what does he really think?" That he doesn't want to leave people with the wrong impression that he fought in Vietnam, like Blumenthal, who did not correct people's impression that he fought in Vietnam.

noga, exactly. I mean really, what is Marty thinking he meant? Malahat, at least what he said was fundamentally right, being forced down by a snowstorm has got to be frightening in itself, and he was there and there were those people there. Blumenthal just made up his entire service there. I simply find it inexplicable why he did so. He got lucky though in his opponent for Nov. being McMahon. She is a circus showgirl. I simply can't believe Republicans nominated her.

"Pull a Blumenthal" enters the political lexicon? blackton: "I simply can't believe Republicans nominated her [McMahon]. Yes, that was a sign of the times that she got more votes than Rob Simmons at the CT GOP convention. However, Simmons will still be on the ballot for the actual Republican primary (not sure if Peter Schiff (Tea Party endorsement) qualifies). So, you just never know what the Connecticut voters will do on August 10 because Connecticut has an OPEN primary. If enough Democrats are disgusted by Blumenthal, and enough independents decide to register out of pure disgust with the way the parties endorse candidates, you just never know. I think a small other problem is that Blumenthal looks a lot like Eliot Spitzer. I read in today's NYT that my former State Senator Gonzalez was sentenced to seven years of jail for corruption. Reminded me of how desperate the Democrats were to get my vote for him in the last primary, while he was already under indictment, which was really weird. Of course, the challenger, Espada, wound up winning, and then screwed up New York State government. Espada is now being investigated by the IRS and FBI. And, today I got a full color piece of attack mail against Espada for voting to cut $493 million from NYC schools. I assume the dire NYState budget crisis is the real issue. It took me a few minutes to figure out the sender was the UFT which I think stands for United Federation of Teachers. Not enough guts to spell it out? Meanwhile, my head is spinning from Andrew Cuomo's decision to run for governor as a POLITICAL OUTSIDER????? THAT would be an incredible re-branding.

Yup, I've noticed for a long time that Blumenthal looks like Spitzer with hair. As for Andrew Cuomo, as Churchill said about Clement Attlee, he is a modest man with much to be modest about.

Doesn't the employment pool increase with a rise in unemployment, even in politics? Check out Gail Collins op-ed in Times today

my take-away from Gail Collins today was that Connecticut has too many millionaires entering politics! I had not realized that Ned Lamont was running for governor. Now I understand why New York's Tom Suozzi went to work for Lazard Freres after he lost re-election as Nassua County Executive. Needs a few million to get back into the game? Just kidding - Suozzi had my vote in his underdog primary challenge to Eliot Spitzer.
