In 2006 The New Republic had an article by Ben Smith, currently of the Politico (then of the New York Daily News), narrating the smarmy tale of how Hillary Clinton was courting Rupert Murdoch. Let me confess to being a friend of Rupert's and even then finding the liason highly improbable, that is, any political liason between the two. I am reasonably sure, however, that Hillary thought she had made an ally and that the ally would come through during primary time.
Was she surprised when she picked up the New York Post this morning to find that the popular newspaper -- popular among the not-so-sophisticated and the very sophisticated readership in New York -- had endorsed her adversary, her enemy, Barack Obama? This is not the first piece of bad news for her from supposed friends, and it won't be the last.

Martin,
about one in ten of your posts make a modicum of sense. This is from the other nine. Consider your logic here:
"In 2006 The New Republic had an article by Ben Smith, currently of the Politico (then of the New York Daily News), narrating the smarmy tale of how Hillary Clinton was courting Rupert Murdoch. Let me confess to being a friend of Rupert's and even then finding the liason highly improbable, that is, any political liason between the two."
Why is it "smarmy" for Sen. Clinton to court an important business and publlishing figure in her own state? That's what elected officials do, they win over or at least defuse potential enemies.
Two examples of your friend Murdoch smarming: Darking the BBC to be palsy-walsy with the Chinese.
Endorsing Obama. By your logic, Murdoch's NEW YORK POST is smarny squared.
My post, though, is not.

Not to hijack the thread but the news about Bill's uranium-seeking pal and his shilling for him in-- get this-- Kazakhstan-- confirms Mr P's disgust. Actually more than disgust. This story is potentially HUGE because it implicates Dubai-lobbyist Bill in the center of a well-known (to ex-sovietologists and spooks, anyway) web of fissile materials and nuke technology, former Soviet Union criminals and state bandits, and Dubai.
Dubai was AQ Khan's transit point for his global network, and remains a favorite haunt and money-laundering destination for large-sale Russian and FSU mafiya characters. We're going to be hearing a LOT more on Bill's buddies in Dubai, Kazakhstan, and the worldwide metals business (of which Marc Rich/Glencore and now, Mr Tony Giustra, are major players).
Tip of the iceberg, folks.

back in the sane world, far far away from manichaean galaxy of enemy acquiring, I would say that the Post endorsed her opponent....

Clinton Remained Silent As Wal-Mart Fought Unions
abcnews.go.com/.../story
Hillary Clinton has no problem reinventing or reversing herself whenever it is politically or financially expedient for her to do so.
While Barack Obama was serving the people of Illinois, Clinton was serving on the board of Wal-Mart, helping to suppress unions and undermine American workers by bringing sweatshop manufactured clothing from Bangladesh using child labor.
And of course she makes no mention of this in her official biography, nor will she address these criticisms directly, other than to say that she's changed her position, and that she didn't know that Wal-Mart was buying its clothing from child labor operations. Yet she was a significant shareholder and board member for Wal-Mart at the time, but she didn't know how her company was conducting business. Does anyone really believe that?

I watched the debate last night and I am still for Hillary.
Both candidates were impressive, but Hillary’s comments were more to the point and full of specificity while Obama’s tended to be more general reflecting his lack of experience.
Again, election day is a long ways away a there is many a slip between the cup and lip!
