An AP dispatch in today's Washington Post reports that Iran wholeheartedly favors the death penalty for Saddam Hussein. This is not exactly an endorsement with ethical cachet. But it is a light into how Shia generally felt about the mass-murdering tyrant.
Of course, the Sunnis generally are much more sympathetic to Saddam, even those to whom he wished only harm. But he did sympathize and support the Palestinians who are returning his loyalty to them with theirs to him. Much as they did when Iraq invaded Kuwait before the first Gulf War. The Palestinians behave like lemmings which is one reason why their cause, such at is, without ethical meaning and without solidarity among themselves, is a losing one.
