This could be Fred's chance to revive his campaign with a "Brother Bubba" moment: He could talk about the decent people, doing nothing wrong, that a bad law "forced" him to prosecute as a young man -- and propose legalizing home distilling. Jimmy Carter legalized home brewing of beer and wine, and since then the spirit of individual innovation has made American beer and wine the best in the world. So why not unleash the limitless potential of America's craft distillers blah blah blah. And when the first reporter asks the obvious question about legalizing marijuana, Fred has the doddering old geezer credibility to claim he can't hear the question. Then he can turn on his homespun act and quote FDR that after sixteen years of Clinton and Dubya, what America needs now is a good stiff drink.
