From this Orlando Sentinel piece (via Jonathan Martin):
Former state-party Chairman Al Cardenas said if McCain can pull within 2 or 3 points before Election Day, the GOP get-out-the-vote effort can put him over the top."Be surprised but not shocked," he said, "with a McCain win on November 4."Asked whether he was satisfied with the McCain operation, Cardenas said, "It's not fair for me to comment without knowing what's at their disposal."A co-chair of George W. Bush's 2004 campaign, Cardenas said McCain lacks the "financial firepower" to match Obama. But, he added, "I wish we were better organized."

This falls into an increasingly common sort of reporting -- GOP person makes a wishful thinking sort of statement that is dutifully reported on, without any sort of reality check. It only makes sense if the GOP in Florida exists in a vacuum and there is no Dem GOTV effort. To imagine that McCain can be down by 3-4 and the GOP GOTV can pull him ahead is to give the GOP GOTV folks super powers and would imply not only getting out the GOP vote but somehow managing to completely negate the Dem GOTV AND to somehow supress the Dem vote by 3-4.
I don't get it... if the GOP wants to win, it should be sounding the alarm and saying apocalyptic things like "we're in danger of losing this thing, and if GOP faithful think we have the GOTV organization in place to beat Obama and his millions they are crazy. Unless we get every serious GOP and McCain person out every day from now till Nov 4th, we are gonna lose this thing."

In Florida, the latter is not at all considered out of the ordinary...
