Earlier this year, embattled Oregon GOP Senator Gordon Smith released an ad touting his Obama love. Funny, but not too surprising, since Oregon is solid blue -- why, Portland hosted the biggest Obama rally of the year.
Now, Jake Tapper catches another Republican piggybacking on Obama's popularity -- in Nebraska.

Oregon isn't exactly solid blue. Multnomah county is solid blue, and it has Portland and most of Oregon's people. I guess Eugene and maybe Salem probably lean Democratic too, but the rest of the state is fairly conservative. Which is why Gordon Smith has stuck around. And, he's also a pretty decent guy, for a Republican.

I wouldn't mind seeing Obama pull down the whole state, but I know that won't happen. I do find it most curious that the Republicans are trying to ride on Obama's coat-tails; it really says something about the Republican brand; even if they are just pandering for votes, that they are pandering by backing Obama tells me that Obama is doing something right.

I concur with ratnerstar. The northwest (Eugene to Portland) is pretty solid blue. The further east or south you go the more it leans republican. This is probably due to the fact that nearly all of the major universities/colleges in Oregon are in the northwest.

In Nebraska no less, where Obama hopes to get one of the electoral votes, but is not guaranteed to get any. When you're too hot to touch in a conservative state, you've really got to be worried, McCain.

In Minnesota, Sen. Norman Coleman is trying to distance himself from McCain. Trying.
Norm is the Lon Chaney of Minnesota politics, you never know which character he's going to play next. He's currently appearing in a Lamar Alexander costume, and his voice has shifted a bit, more like the narrator from "The Waltons".
Here in Minnesota, we think the clock may be running out for Norm.
"Goodnight, John Boy. Goodnight, Norm."
