The Morning News

Breaking Ranks [Anne Kornblut, Washington Post]: "[Massachusetts] Governor Deval Patrick, a former Clinton administration official and only the second African-American governor in modern history, is planning to endorse Sen. Barack Obama in the Democratic presidential campaign, aides to both lawmakers said late Thursday."

French Hiss [Grant Schulte, Des Moines Register]:
"A strange 'Clinton' motif followed Gov. Mitt Romney through eastern Iowa Wednesday as he campaigned for president."

You Can Take it With You [Chuck Neubauer and Tom Hamburger, Los Angeles Times]:
"Hillary Rodham Clinton returned more than $800,000 in contributions donated to her presidential campaign that were arranged by alleged swindler Norman Hsu. But campaign officials said Tuesday they had no plans to return more than $260,000 that many of the same donors gave to her Senate political accounts."

Welcome Back [Jonathan Roos, Des Moines Register]:
"Rudy Giuliani returned Wednesday to familiar themes of his Republican presidential campaign in his first trip to Iowa in nearly two months."

That endorsement would mean that Obama would have the endorsement of the only two black governors since reconstruction. A few weeks ago Virginia's former governor Wilder (now Richmond mayor) endorsed Obama.

Tell Breaking Ranks that Deval Patrick is not a lawmaker. As governor, he's a law implementer. At least that's what I learned in social studies when I grew up in Massachusetts.
