Readers may have noticed that the "Daily Treatment" isn't really daily. Instead, it's daily when I have time to write it, which isn't as often as I would like. And that's unfortunate.

I give thanks to the thousands of men and women, both patients and healthy volunteers, who participate in clinical trials of breakthrough medications and other therapies around the world. As someone who works in drug development, I know that many of these potential treatments carry onerous side effects, particularly those being developed to treat the most serious conditions; only their potential to improve longevity, quality of life, or other beneficial endpoints allows them to get into and past Phase I. The decision, never to be taken lightly, by human subjects to participate in these trials allows all of us to reap the benefits later on--if and when such benefits actually occur.
