My friend Avi Shavit is a brilliantly original journalist, and he has written a brilliantly original article in Thursday's Haaretz. It's not one of those silly "here's the speech I would give if I were ... president, prime minister, pope ... ." It's a piece of advice to Ehud Olmert, who, if he did what Shavit suggests, would restore confidence in his government and make the government worthy of that confidence. Which, frankly but also obviously, it does not merit now. Shavit calls his piece "Just do it." It would be hard to do. But Israel has an uncanny way of dealing with troubles.
