This misreporting-of-voter-fraud scandalette is related, tangentially, to the firing of U.S. Attorney David Iglesias, who refused to prosecute questionable voter fraud charges in New Mexico: There's a partisan battle in this country over how much and what kind of voter fraud exists, and a partisan stake in the answer: If there's a lot, and it's pre-vote (i.e. signing up people who are ineligible, etc), that's good for Republicans.
