Hey, GOP: Watch Your Back With Matthew Scully
August 30, 2012
Memo to Romney-Ryan speechwriters John McConnell, Lindsay Hayes, and Stuart Stevens: Watch your back around this guy Matthew Scully! Scully, who with McConnell is credited with writing Paul Ryan’s crowd-pleasing convention speech, is a former White House speechwriter and author of a well-regarded book, Dominion, that urges humans to show greater respect for the animal kingdom. The animal Scully most emulates is the black widow spider.
Defining Scholarship Down
August 13, 2008
Pardon my obsession, but I'm still stewing about Mary Matalin's characterization of Jerome Corsi's political smear-jobs as "scholarship." The Times notes that Media Matters has been doing its part to fact-check Corsi's new Obama book. But the organization's site also contains an old but still impressive list of some of Corsi's greatest hits on FreeRepublic.com.
Mary Matalin--making Her Loved Ones Proud
August 13, 2008
From today's NYT piece on the vile and frequently fictitious anti-Obama book just released by swift-boat propagandist and renowned liar Jerome Corsi: The publisher is Threshold Editions, a division of Simon & Schuster whose chief editor is Mary Matalin, the former Republican operative turned publisher-pundit. Those looking for a monocausal explanation of Mitt Romney's flameout over the last few weeks need look no further than the fact that, since Fred Thompson dropped out of the race, ex-adviser (and famed nexus of GOP ineptitude) Mary Matalin has been carrying water for Romney. Here she is in National Review: “The guy has become an increasingly good candidate. He’s not a political animal — he’s an executive, an analyst, a leader,” she says of Romney. “He’s not an instinctive politician — but his political skills have gotten increasingly better.
Farewell, Fred. Hello Jeri?
January 22, 2008
Fred may be gone, but I predict we haven't seen the last of Jeri. At times this campaign seemed to be as much about her as about him. Fox News host? Senate run? Place your bets now.... P.S. The Curse of Bloody Mary?: One of Thompson's senior advisors was GOP celebrity pundi-consultant Mary Matalin. Previously Matalin worked for the aborted campaign of George "Macaca" Allen. Who dares hire her next? --Michael Crowley
