For the better part of an hour, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has been kicked back in the front cabin of Coast Guard One, the small but handsomely appointed plane on which she travels, chatting easily about the challenges of running the third-largest Cabinet department. En route back to Washington after three days of nonstop meetings in Mexico City--a whirlwind visit made more challenging by the fact that Napolitano broke her right ankle playing tennis last month and is still hobbling around on crutches--the secretary is in wind-down mode.

Kbh Gets Ready To Rumble
In officially tossing her cowgirl hat into the 2010 Texas governor's race this morning, Kay Bailey Hutchinson (as previewed by Mike Allen) is set to take this shot at sitting governor Rick Perry: "He's a dedicated public servant. I know he loves Texas. But now he's trying to stay too long--14 years, maybe longer." Keep in mind that this isn't just a generic anti-incumbent or anti-status quo slam (which, when you think about it, would be a little odd, considering that the four-term senator ain't exactly a fresh face).
Reaping The Whirlwind
It was bad enough when, at a "Tea Party" event in Austin over the weekend, courthouse-violence-apologist Senator John Cornyn and sometimes-secessionist Governor Rick Perry were booed as sellouts by attendees. But now right-wing blogger Ace of Spades has been effectively marginalized on his own site by commenters unhappy with his view that Sarah Palin's resignation from office probably means she's through with elective politics. To be clear, Ace of Spades is vehemently pro-Palin.
