Expatriate Love For Obama

While this news may not excite the nation's loins the way the Wisconsin primary did, Obama just won the Democrats Abroad global primary--his 11th victory in a row. What exactly is the Democrats Abroad global primary? A good question, and one Adrianne Quinlan answered in this piece we ran on the website last week that's worth checking out if you haven't yet. Key statistic: Hillary Clinton picked up 64 percent of the Latino vote. Ben Smith thinks that the Hillary camp's talk of voter suppression helped turnout non-union workers in the casinos. It was "as much an electoral strategy as a post-electoral spin," he says. READ MORE >>

I have a small quibble with something Ian McEwan said in his (really quite interesting) interview on our site today. Towards the end of a discussion of how atheists--clearly propelled by the success of authors like Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris--now feel more emboldened to discuss their beliefs, the Atonement author explains:  READ MORE >>

A Life Cut Too Short

Amadou Cisse, a very quiet, very intelligent 29 year Senegalese man recently finished the requirements for his doctorate in chemistry and was to receive his diploma in a few days at Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago. His thesis adviser, Professor Steven Sibener, said he was very proud of him and had the emptied bottle of champagne in Amadou’s honor up on the shelf with those of his other successful doctoral students. On Monday, Nov. 20, about 1:30 READ MORE >>

Supply-siders, the sitting president, Delaware… it’strue, our very own Jon Chait isn’t a particularly huge fan of these things. But in terms of what makes Chait’s blood really boil, they’ve got nothing on the Ohio State football team. READ MORE >>
