Go Home Who's Down And Out After A Mccain Loss?

OCTOBER 23, 2008

Who's Down And Out After A Mccain Loss?

Beyond Schmidt, Davis, Salter, etc, which rising star staked absolutely everything he had on John McCain? Senator Lindsey Graham, whose partnership with the Arizonan was so intense it superceded his identity as a South Carolina legislator and approached the level of Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid-esque bromance. Graham let his other party connections lapse in favor of his brotherhood with McCain, and a Mac loss leaves him out in the cold. Reporting on some of the GOP regrouping sessions that are already scheduled for after the election, Marc Ambinder notes:

And then, a week later, South Carolina Republican Party chairman Katon
Dawson holds a semi-secret conclave of Republican National Committee
members, donors and activists in Myrtle Beach, SC. Dawson wants to be
the next chairman of the party.  NB: Sen. Lindsey Graham is not invited.

Sad.

What could Graham's next act be? Well, Graham always had a thing for Hillary Clinton, weirdly enough. Maybe he'll get really mavericky and team up with her on healthcare?

What career options will McCain have if he loses?  Will he return to the Senate?

Lindsey Graham had a presence of his own before McCain. How has he taken any risks in supporting McCain? dbhuff's got it, it's Lieberman who's about to go broke.

And let's not forget Graham's about to be reelected! He's got almost six years to find a way to recover even if he does take a hit. South Carolina will continue to reelect him until he dies or until his homosexuality is proven. Hey, it's true.

My vote for biggest loser of 08 (after McCain, of course) is Joe Lieberman. He gambled that McCain would win and he'd get a top spot in the new administration, Sec. of State maybe. Wrongggggggg!!!

Lieberman will get nothing and lose his committee chairmanships in the next Congress, never to get one again as long as the Dems rule. Don't let the swining door hit you on the way out, Loserman!
